techbargains.com

This site is updated more than once a day with deals on everything that is related to computers and electronics. It gives you savings codes and coupons that you can apply to online deals. Very resourceful site.

trillian.cc

Trillian is a program that allows you to instant message people with many different networks at once (aol, yahoo, msn, icq, etc.). So, you don't have to have AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger, or any other program. You can chat with all of your friends, no matter what service they use, with this one program.

webshots.com

Webshots is a killer program that allows you to have some really nice pictures as the background image of your screen on your monitor. Webshots can also incorporate those pictures into a screen saver. You can even put your own personal pictures in this program, and have those pictures be your background screen image and images in your screen saver.

winamp.com

WinAmp, which stands for Windows Amplifier, is the best mp3 player out there. It has an equalizer and everything. You can even change the look of it via the "skins" that you can download from winamp.com. If you are going to be playing mp3's, which everyone does eventually, then this is a must have.

worldtimeserver.com

If you want to know the exact time, anywhere in the world, surf to this site.

yahoo! mail

This goes hand in hand with My Yahoo!, but even if you don't use My Yahoo! as your homepage, it's still a good idea to have Yahoo! Mail as you can use this email address when you buy something online. That way, you avoid getting junk email at your regular email address.

It's also a very stable email service that is very convenient, as all you need to read/send email is a computer and an internet connection. Just go to the site, sign in, and you're good to go. You don't have to be at your computer to do this. You can use any computer, anywhere. That's the benefit of web-based email (email that you send/receive via a website).

yahoo! messenger

Yahoo! also has it's own instant messenger program. I actually prefer this one over AOL, as it has a lot more options. However, you will have to have your friends sign up for Yahoo! as well. If they have a yahoo.com email address, then they just have to download this program.

UPDATE: It now allows you and your friends to view each other LIVE while chatting. You and your friends will each have to have a webcam to use this feature.

yahoo.com

I'm sure most of you have heard of yahoo.com, but if you haven't, you should know that it is the most visited website on the Internet. That's not hype. It's true. It works like a search engine, but it is actually what is known as a portal or a directory.

In other words, when you type in your search keywords, it doesn't do a quick search of the internet for websites that contain your keywords like a search engine does. Instead, it searches its directory of websites, which is incredibly vast.

UPDATE: It has incorporated it's search portal with Google.com, so when you do a search, and it doesn't find much of what you want in its directory, it reverts to Google's search engine. Now it has the best of both worlds.

zonealarm

This is the best free firewall out there. A firewall is a software program that keeps hackers from getting access to your computer while you are connected to the Internet. It is vital that everyone have this software installed on their computer for security reasons. To see why you need to protect yourself from hackers, go here.
